Pretty neat for 3D stuff

So I decided to try Sloyd for some character 3D models. It was pretty easy to get started, just typed in what I wanted and it spit out a model. I played around with the 3D Template Editor a bit too. Exporting it for 3D printing was simple enough. Felt good not having to spend ages modeling by hand. It's a handy tool if you need models without all the fuss.

Easy to use, good support

I signed up for the Pro plan a few weeks ago, mainly for the Text-to-3D generator and AI Rigging. The ordering process was straightforward on their website. I had a small question about the API access, so I used their support chat. They responded within a few hours and were actually helpful, which was nice. The models generated were generally good quality, especially for game assets. I used the GLB export for Unity and it worked without issues. Delivery, in terms of model generation, was almost instant. The AI animation feature worked surprisingly well on a character I made.

Good value on annual plan

I was looking for a decent AI 3D modeling tool and Sloyd popped up. I checked out their pricing and the annual plan seemed like the best deal compared to paying monthly. The discount made it pretty appealing, especially since I needed the commercial license. I generated a few low-poly 3D models for a project I'm tinkering with, and they exported fine as GLB files. It felt like a solid investment for the price.

Consistent performance for assets

I've been using Sloyd for about six months now, mostly for environment assets and some furniture 3D models. This last batch of procedural 3D assets was as consistent as previous orders. I appreciate that the quality hasn't really dipped. Their AI Rigging is still a major plus for me, saving a lot of time. I keep coming back because it's reliable for getting game-ready models quickly. The export options for FBX and OBJ have always worked seamlessly too. It's a good tool to have in the kit.

Quick models, easy export

Needed some quick 3D game assets. Sloyd generated them fast. Exported as GLB. No problems.

How does Sloyd compare to Meshy? Been using Meshy for a bit but the animation options in Sloyd look interesting.

J Jared W. 1 month ago
Sloyd's AI rigging and animation are definitely a step up from Meshy, in my opinion. Meshy is good for basic stuff but Sloyd gets you closer to game-ready faster with the movement.

I find Sloyd's asset generation more consistent for diverse categories. Meshy felt a bit more limited in what it could produce without heavy prompting.

Is there a student discount for Sloyd? I'm in college and funds are tight but this looks super useful.

D Daisy Carter 2 months ago
I'm pretty sure there is. I saw something about it on their site or in an ad. Worth checking their FAQ page.

Yeah, I remember seeing a student discount mentioned. They don't do promo codes much, so it's probably an automatic thing if you qualify.

Hey, thinking about getting Sloyd for my game dev stuff. Are the models actually game-ready? Like, poly count and textures good to go or do I need to do a bunch of cleanup?

J James S. 1 month ago
Yeah, they're pretty decent. I've pulled a few assets for a Unity project and they dropped right in. Usually low-poly enough and the UVs are unwrapped properly.

Honestly, it depends on what you're making. For a mobile game, totally fine. For a AAA title, you'll still want to tweak them, but it's a solid starting point and saves a ton of time.

Has anyone used the image-to-3D feature? Wondering if it's any good for turning concept art into actual models or if it's just a gimmick.

G Greg Carter 1 month ago
I tried it with some character sketches. It's surprisingly good for rough shapes and getting a base mesh, but don't expect it to perfectly capture all the details without some text prompts afterward.

It's decent for static objects. For anything organic or complex characters, it's more of a starting point than a finished model.

Can I actually use the models I make on Sloyd for commercial projects? Like, if I sell a game with them, is that okay?

M Marcus 1 month ago
Yup, totally fine. Their terms explicitly say you can use them for commercial projects. That's one of the main reasons I picked it.

T Tara Romero 1 month ago
Yeah, it's covered under their commercial license. Just make sure you're on a paid plan for full commercial rights, I think.
